NOTE: This is a pre sale at this time. Units are expected to be ready to ship by, or before, the end of 2025. We are hoping to bring the in-car communicator both up to the 21st century and get it out of the car! Your support in pre-ordering your desired kit will help us scale this project.

Flight Motorsports is pleased to finally be poised to release an in-car communicator that doesn't suck. Smaller than "the quiet one" and as loud as "the big cumbersome one" PLUS the addition of Bluetooth, IMSA jacks, and more!

This means that not only are we bringing you the best in-car communicator, we're also bringing you the only option that will pair to your phone (we all have them) which will allow for car-to-car communications, in conjunction with in-car operation, via a simple phone call.

Lap Cast has three modes to ensure your use case is covered:

All Channels Open: In this mode the driver and passenger can talk, as well as anyone that's on the other end of the phone call. Add in more cars with a conference call! You can chat to all your buddies while blasting around your favorite track.

Push-to-Talk (PTT): In this mode, all in-car communication is open, but the passenger must push the PTT button to send audio to the phone call. This is perfect for car-to-car drills where both cars have an instructor or coach in the right seat. The instructor can dictate when the other car(s) can hear you. In this mode all incoming phone audio goes to both driver and passenger.

PTT Local Mute: In this mode the instructor/passenger decides where their mic goes. In normal mode, the in-car channels are connected, when the PTT button is pressed the passenger mic goes to the other car(s) only. This mode is perfect for one instructor with two students doing a lead-follow exercise. In this mode all incoming phone audio goes only to the passenger.

*If a phone is not connected, the unit will always act like a traditional communicator and all internal audio passed back and forth.

**Modes are indicated by the RGB LED, as well as blink count for our color challenged customers.

Battery! We know this was a point of contention for the new "quiet one" when introducing a rechargeable battery so we followed the community's sentiment that they want a replaceable option as well. We think we've one-upped this in that we have a spot for a 9V battery, but this is only used to rapid charge the internal battery.

The internal battery in the Lap Cast In Car Communicator is a high-quality 18650 cell, and we estimate that for the average user, will need to be recharged once per year, via a USBC charger. If you're in a pickle at the track, borrow a friend's 9V battery and rapid charge your Lap Cast in minutes before your next session.

Low Battery warnings are provided via LED indicator on the unit, as well as a [noninvasive] low-battery tone in the headsets so you'll have plenty of warning before your unit dies.

Headsets? You get an IMSA jack, and you get an IMSA jack, and you get an IMSA jack! We built IMSA jacks right into the Lap Cast. No proprietary connector, no rats nest of flying-leads. Simple, clean, MIL Spec IMSA jacks. This is honestly one of the biggest cost drivers of the Lap Cast but we think it's worth it.

At this time we are still evaluating headsets for comfort and operation but what will be provided will be some sort of commodity headset with an IMSA plug that matches or exceeds the competition.

Construction is another area the Lap Cast really shines. We're using a high quality, anodized 6061 Aluminum frame to create the structure of the Lap Cast. This in conjunction with high quality connectors, wire assemblies, and a single piece rigid-flex PCB assembly, as well as internal mechanical packaging ensures the Lap Cast will be far more durable than the competition. No more broken wires, no more floppy 9V connector, no more fussing around.

3D printed units to show how they fit in an average male hand, and where the PTT button is.
